Watto – A game of two halves, aren’t they all

Having recently travelled half way round the world and been forced to snatch a view on various dubious Internet TV Channels I finally made it back to the theatre of dreamers. The irony that BBC is broadcasting a match 5 minutes from my house is not lost on me. If I were in charge, the BBC would not be allowed across the doorstep. Their treatment of this football club, especially locally, is nothing short of scandalous. To have the dancing fibber Savage and Claridge, another reprobate who owes this club big time, summarising, is just adding insult to injury.

Quite rightly  the two greedy baskets both agreed  the first half the game was crap. Money bags Leicester with two England strikers up front, dominated the possession mainly because they passed the ball to each other while Blues passed it to them. Blues had the best chance when a Beausejour free kick was headed wide by Caldwell with two others unmarked in better positions.

Leicester could not give Blues defence any kind of examination in spite of their control. Matt Mills, who Alex McLeish was not allowed to buy for us, had their only meaningful effort on goal after a long throw fell to him. Myhill parried away the angled drive.

The second half began with a change of Ref and Mr Wright should be complemented on his performance. Take it from me for a referee to come on as a replacement is one of the most difficult things for an official to do.

After Beausejour had rattled the Leicester woodwork with a 30 yard pile driver he began to terrorise the Leicester defence. With the visitors dithering, he burst into the box and was scythed down. Full marks to the ref who showed he possesses a pair and immediately pointed to the spot.

Marlon King who had hardly had a touch, got the ball and smashed it past Schmichel. The ref was not Leicester’s favourite when Mills lunged two footed into Gomis with a tackle that would have been frowned upon in the 1940’s. Quite rightly Mills was red carded. So why did the Leicester players not chastise Mills instead of haranguing the referee?

Annoyingly Blues then returned to their charitable mode of giving up possession and failed to make their extra man count. Twice they did break free and were denied by Schmichel who kept out one on ones by Woods and King. On the third occasion Woods, released after excellent work by Fahey and King, waltzed around the keeper and slotted home for two-nil.

This was Blues third win in a row and games are coming thick and fast. Chris Hughton is starting to stamp his authority on the players available to him. The European experience is starting to become a help rather than a hindrance. It would be nice if the authorities had not given us an away game after each Europa tie and didn’t move games like today to Sunday when it is not necessary.

a real confidence booster of a performance. the commentator kept saying that leicester dominated the first half but i can't recall us being bothered. Quality second goal, more to come i trust. as for the experts, well they did agree with the decisions. wonder if savage dropped in to see his mother as he was so near to her.
