Watto’s Report: Another Myhill gaffe costs Blues dear
Features, Match Center, Match Reports, News | admin | September 4, 2011 at 10:30 pmBlues squandered another lead, as on loan keeper Boas Myhill in explicably punched a 25 yard drive straight up in the air rather than over the bar. Martin Taylor the former Blues stopper used his breakneck pace to nod home the ball with no Blues defender near him and Myhill sat on his backside in the goal mouth.
The significant Blues following were sent home fuming at the loss of 2 points which should have been there for the taking. Watford was woeful and Blues camped in the home team’s half for the first 45 minutes but as usual the end product was not there. After 40 minutes Watford had managed 2 shots to Blues one in spite of having almost zero possession. One of those was a gift from Myhill who flapped at a cross, fell to the floor and left an open goal. The Watford forward side footed the ball high and wide.
Blues managed a goal when from a corner when Murphy headed goalwards and Rooney tapped in from 2 yards.
Blues held on to the lead after the interval and looked good for the points after missing chances by Burke and Carr. Blues had comfortably held Watford at bay and when fresh legs were needed they sent on Jerome. Before Jerome could get a touch a ball was given away in mid field and Sordell ran on to drive past Myhill. It was inconceivable that Blues were not going to come away with three points and with 2 minutes to go Wood ran on to a perfect Beausejour pass and netted neatly. Game over it would seem but another poor loss of possession in midfield allowed Sordell to have another pop from distance. Time stood still and so did Blues defence as Taylor headed home.
Shocking was the only way to describe the gaff, the game and the goal. European conquests one day, and muggings by rubbish opposition the next.
Where was Caldwell? Where was the new signing. N’daw? Where is Scott Dann? This squad is not paper thin, it is transparent. 3 days of the transfer window and time to get some bodies in. Bodies that, when they are signed, are actually ready to play!!
The table does not lie and a point a game is relegation form. This was a six pointer today and Mr Myhill tossed 5 of them away.
