Watto looks back at Derby 2-1 Blues
Features, Match Center, Match Reports, News | admin | August 7, 2011 at 9:29 pmTHOSE THAT WANTED ECK AND SULLIVAN OUT SHOULD HAVE BEEN CAREFUL WHAT THEY WISHED FOR.
The team that Blues put out today will struggle to stay in the division. Seeing this team for the first time was like watching the remnants of a car crash. The patient is barely alive and in a vegetative state with the powers that be, keen to turn off the life support. It’s been left to the magnificent 4000 fans that travelled to Derby today to show that somebody cares and defy those that would let us pass away.
Any Blues fan that is not parked in a seat at St Andrews next week for the visit of Coventry will have to look in the mirror and convince themselves they are not personally responsible for turning the knife. This all very melodramatic you might say but the fact is that the Club has been brutally raped by a foreign invader and is having its bones picked to save the skin of the perpetrator. (If only Blues scored goals like I spew metaphors)
Blues only have us. They are fortunate to have the services of an excellent manager who managed to get a half decent performance from a team of mixed ability from conference level to championship.
He is forced to play a baggies third choice keeper instead of England’s finest. The poor Boaz had no chance of reaching those standards and his appalling error to allow Derby’s winner with the ball passing over his right shoulder would have embarrassed a Ryman Leaguer.
With a £10m centre half available Davies and Caldwell were still put together and played like strangers. The equalizer was conceded with the opposing centre half heading home a cross that was less than chest height.
Is there a light at the end of the tunnel? Well I’m not sure is there is a tunnel yet in view. Curtis Davies headed home a Mutch corner to give Blues a deserved lead and the Derby equaliser galling though it was did not prevent Blues continuing to dominate. Davies for Derby fired his 25 yarder because that was as close as Derby was allowed to go. Hard as the shot was, Myhill’s error was inexcusable .
Beausejour, and Burke both struck the goal frame and Carr should have hit an empty net from six yards. Rooney got into good positions but does not have a shot in him. Woods another baggie third choice may have something to offer but not before our plight gets desperate.
One player that did look a class act was Jordon Mutch. He’ll be gone with the fairies before the end of August if he shines like today. Playing in the role Ferguson did he picked his passes, took the ball and looked mature beyond his years.
Blues are a better team than Derby, even their Manager admitted that. Hopefully there are another two as bad for us to stay up. Last year there were several and we still went down.

Typical whinging negative crap – yes we are in the shit off the pitch but all things considered wasn't a bad performance.
For the first time ever I thought Wattos report was scandalous
Very good performance.By Blues.
A bit desparate by the Rams at times.
Against a team that beat Villa 2-0 earlier in the week -
we did well.
No hoofball and a growing understanding amongst players
I hope that Derby keep up this level of performance against other teams.
Myhil will have more than one week's support and coaching.
Woods will actually have more then one day learning about his new team mates.
Zigic, King or Jerome may stop hiding.
Who knows what will happen?
Millar scored in time added-on at Upton Park to remove 3 home points from West Ham.
Does that mean that Allardyce's team is struggling?
After one match, definitive comments are pretty meaningless mate.
Davie's 25 yard header ?
You obviously were not at the match.
Shackell scored with a header from 5 yards.
Davies actually scored with a shot.
But, there you go. Don't let the facts interfere with a slag.
25 yard header? who said that? Sorry for the negativity but we blues fans have been betrayed, screwed and spat out. i have been critical of Blues fans in the past but i can't express how good thay are being with this situation. Your optimism is great don't lose it. I have lost mine I'm afraid after 51 years I'm entitled.
Last year we lost ponts at sunderland (against 10 men) and Bolton (2-0 up). Saturday was deja Vue. Relegated by one point last year . Doesn't saturday have that feel to it/
This should have been the best year of my Blues life and its become the worst. If you want to take over please do so. i will read your optimistic views with relish. Until then you will have to put up with REALITY.
God Bless
This is the first match of the season and although we have lost the opposition manager described us as the better side. If this keeps happening then we have a problem; on the basis of one match the jury is out. 20 attempts at goal would have taken the previous manager's team a month ( even then you would have had to include pre match kick arounds ). Chris Hughton deserves a chance particularly as he will be poorly backed financially.
The real bummer is the finances: no one outside the board knows where we stand ( wouldn't be surprised if they are as clueless). Even this is no different from other clubs in the top divisions; how many clubs in the Premiership for instance apart from Wolves and Wigan would not be in desperate straits if something happened to their 'benefactors'.
At least we benefit from the old Chinese ( Hong Kong?) curse of always living in interesting times at St Andrews, look at our dear neighbours at Vile Park who jerk off on constant mediocrity providing they are the self proclaimed Best Team in the Midlands to find out how boring a smug life can get ( pre McJudas; real tedium awaits ).
Keep the faith and Keep Right On.
