Birmingham hope to beat Liverpool to the signature of Serbian striker Milan Jovanovic, who is available on a Bosman transfer from Belgian side Standard Liege.

According to the Daily Mirror, Alex McLeish has targeted Jovanovic to partner fellow Serb Nikola Zigic, who has already moved to St Andrews.

Jovanovic was due to sign for Liverpool on a free transfer from Standard Liege after holding talks with Rafa Benitez in January, but the Spaniard’s departure looks to have ended any possible deal.

Agent Barry McIntosh confirmed: “Birmingham wanted Jovanovic in January and I tried to make it happen but he wanted to run his contract down.

“Now a move to Birmingham is a possibility once more.”

If we sign this guy on a Bosman and Robbie Keane for 6m and nzogbia for 8m an the Jap left back and Clyne from Palace and Konchesky and Mcready and Boyd for the bench will he still persevere with Bowyer?

No considering if we got anywere near Jovanovic we would not spend money on a striker due to a signing on fee and probable high wages. We have pulled out of NZogbia 'for now' The Japenise lb is all media talk i think, we wont go near McGeady and we pulled out for Boyd 2 months ago.
