If any Blues fan/player/manager is not aware of the importance of Sunday’s Derby then losing would create a unique situation as neither side have conceded more than five consecutive defeats to the other. A win for Blues would tie up the Premiership wins and also the league wins between BIRMINGHAM and Villa.  Like the inaccurate drivel that is daubed across the Holte End the Villa have a very distorted and inaccurate view of history. The team called Small Heath Alliance never played League football and Small Heath never won a league game against Villa. The Villa has never played in Aston and the town from which they took their name was swallowed up by Birmingham in 1911 and disappeared altogether in 1925. Muntz Street was larger than the Villa’s Perry Barr Ground and was larger than Villa Park at the time if it’s closing. St Andrews was the larger venue until the 1930’s and was bombed more than any other than any other league ground during World War two. At Villa Park where development continued throughout the War in spite of building work being banned nationally, the place was untouched by bomb or incendiary. It was even used as an ammunition dump such was its immunity from the Luftwaffe. All this gave rise to the rumour that the Villa and Adolf Hitler were in league. This was of course denied even though pictures from the Villa’s pre war trip to Berlin showed them doing the Nazi salute.

What all this has to do with Sunday’s clash? Nothing really but it’s about time we beat the Vile. It’s about time that Alex started dominating the nightmares of Monsignor O’Neill again and revenged that 5-1 humiliation two years ago. Remember the garbage the Vilers used to spiel about the Derby meaning more to us than them? Well six games before they beat us soon changed that. Who could forget the obnoxious Herr Mellberg who claimed never to have heard of Birmingham City yet when he left the scene on that terrible Sunday looked as though he just won three World Cups!

Blues are not in any great form at the moment and Villa, ‘bhoyed’ by two really impressive wins against Pompey and Hull will be the bookies favourites. Well, bookies get rich when the favourite falls and the almost reserve side that Blues put out at St Andrews in August has changed beyond recognition.

If Blues cannot get themselves up for this one then they all should get on their bikes. We have had a good season. We might have won the FA Cup, may have got in the Europa league but we didn’t. We may have created some records along the way but a defeat on Sunday and all that good stuff will be forgotten. On St George’s day I call on every man in a Blue shirt to do his duty. The Vile have dreams of Champion’s League and who better to sour their pudding?
