Arsene Wenger – Who do you think you are?

Arsene Wenger - Header

Qui pensez-vous que vous êtes ? Quién piensa usted que usted es? Kuka luulet, olevasi? Vem tänker du att du är?

Arsene Wenger is an intelligent man who is both multilingual,(hence the above by-line) and manages an excellent football team. It does him little credit that he even considers the chants of a visiting football crowd worthy of comment. He should leave that to the girly correspondents at the Birmingham Evening Mail.

For the record the support for Martin Taylor was not aimed at making light of Eduardo’s unfortunate injuries. The Blues fans who witnessed the accident at St Andrew’s were highly respectful of Eduardo’s misfortune and acted accordingly. Many Blogs such as this have repeatedly passed on our good wishes and were pleased to see him return fully fit.

Arsene Wenger’s reaction was to accuse Taylor of thuggery and call for a life ban. Allegedly Wenger retracted this statement. I have watched an awful lot of interviews by the Alsatian,(that’s someone from Alsace), and have yet to hear that retraction. Maybe it passed me by but one thing that Wenger has never done is apologise. Ironically Taylor is out with a broken leg himself ,contracted in collision during a friendly. Has Wenger given the big man a moment’s thought? A get well card perhaps?  Probably not.

Eduardo accused Taylor of not caring enough to go and see him in hospital. Martin Taylor went out of his way to seek out Eduardo and wish him well. Martin Taylor is not a liar and not a cheat. When Eduardo perpetrated the dive in the Celtic game and received appropriate punishment how many of us real football fans thought that those sympathies were misplaced?

The Theo Walcott injury is a mystery. What kind of insult to his colleague was his performance when legally tackled by Liam Ridgewell? Rolling around prostate, limping off like a survivor of the Battle of the Somme was inexcusable. If he was trying to get Ridgewell booked he should be punished by his own manager. If he was trying to hide his indignity of been dumped on his ass by a great tackle then he failed. His dignity disappeared as he returned to the field and displayed Olympic standard speed leaving Blues defenders for dead.

Wenger became party to the subterfuge by removing Walcott a full twenty minutes later. If you have Arshavin to take his place then it’s easy to protect your young protégé. Whatever Walcott’s reason for leaving the pitch it had nothing to do with Liam Ridgewell’s tackle.

As for the Blues fans’ support for Martin Taylor, that had nothing to do with Eduardo, rather a response to Wenger’s misplaced comments and supporting a decent bloke who just happens to be out of the game with a real career threatening injury.

fuck all Birmingham fans!!!!! Hope your shit team will get relagated!!!!! Your fucking players can only hurt and destroy our and the other teams players!!!! Keep the facts right, idiots!!!!

  2. jjokcha says:

wow, btw Theo is out for 3 weeks. So much for limping off like a survivor of the Battle of the Somme. . .

  3. Tim says:

And of course, Liam Ridgewell's tackle had nothing whatsoever to do with Walcott being out for 3 to 4 weeks with knee ligament damage. That's also part of Wenger's masterplan to not let himself pick one of our best players… oh wait. No, it's for the same reason he substituted Walcott… wait for it… because he was injured.

I hoped the away Brum fans didn't speak for all of them, but sadly judging by this blog you are all as short-sighted as your manager is when it comes to football, and pathetic apologists for a talentless oaf who took 18 months of Edaurdo's career from him.

  4. nicholas says:

Walcott will be out for 4 weeks due to injury. And what your report of what Eduardo said is strictly what the media was saying before he had to clarify. The tackle was hard, but legal, it's unfortunate that walcott was injured but these things happen. As for the chants, they were in very poor tastes, specifically after the tackle. Honestly I think this is a bit blown out of proportion, fans don't always act the way we would like, that's football. I don't hate Birmingham now because some of their fans said something stupid.

  5. Naij says:

    you are deluded!

  6. Hoofen says:

So Theo left the field with a mystery injury which will keep him out for four weeks?

  7. arsenal4ever says:

further you fans are all so blind!! Did you ever seen an Arsenal player hurt your players like Taylor and now Ridgewell or who he is called? No, I dont think so as your shit team cant play any kind of normal football!! Only destroying is your attitude. Your fans showed it with this disgusting song for your "hero" Taylor, which should be banned for life!!!!

  8. Andy says:

what a total load of rubbish!!

  9. arsenal4ever says:

to Nicholas: The tackle was ok?? Come on fu.. you!!! Typical comment of an deluded fan!! You should be all banned from Emirates!!!!

  10. Ashok says:

Walcott now looks likely to be out for a few weeks, maybe up to 4. Aer you going to apologise now for your comments? And "nothing to do with Ridgwell's tackle"?? Many will argue as to the legality, but you can be sure it was solely down to the tackle he went off.

It does you no credit writing a slanderous article like this – shame, as you started it quite sensibly..

  11. Ralph says:

    Come of it mate.

Firstly the retraction was widely publicised and repeated more than once.

As for the blues fans supporting Taylor – don't give me any rubbish about it being a response to anything – the chant went up after Walcott had been fouled and whilst he was getting treated. 'Reducers' have no place in modern football and what your guy did on Walcott was a foul regardless of whether he got the ball because there was completely obvious intent to take the man.

As for the rubbish suggesting Walcott wasn't injured – why the heck is he out for three weeks then?

You set out to kick us off the park (two blatant fouls on Cesc in the first 40 seconds set the tone) and it was only week refereeing that saw you keep a full team on the pitch. A shame really because once you stopped the fouling and started to play football you looked like a decent team rather than 11 McLeish's hacking away.

The 70s are long gone and so is 70s style football and no ab=mount of bleating by you will bring it back – thank god!

  12. rellends says:

biggest load of toss i have ever had the misfortune of reading.

  13. aaa says:

shocking someone can set themselves to defend that chant.

  14. eddie says:

"When Eduardo perpetrated the dive in the Celtic game and received appropriate punishment how many of us real football fans thought that those sympathies were misplaced?" – Eduardos 'appropriate punishment' evidently wasn't considered by UEFA to be as 'appropriate'you seem to think, thus they revoked the ban – twerp.

  15. Dave Winchester says:

Now that the full impact of Ridgewell's assault on Theo is known, I can only assume that your retraction will follow swiftly?

  16. joe says:

Birmingham. You've got the UK's ugliest women (also the easiest), the worst accent, the most neanderthal men, the most backward fashions, the worst music, and the dreariest, most unimaginative football supporters (hardly surprising, given the quality of your team).

I'm not entirely sure that you're entitled to an opinion on Arsene Wenger.

  17. arsenal4ever says:

I am sorry for my really bad comments but as Ralph said it was clearly a foul!!! He only wanted to hurt Walcott and fucking McLeash told him to do so!!! I am sure of that. Such players and teams like yours ones doesnt have the permission to be in EPL!!! If we did hurt a player from you like that again another witch hunt would start!!!

He came from his bad injury and now he is out for another 4 weeks!!!! Thx Ridgwell ( I hope someone will break your legs ) and Birmingham for that!!!! It is time for stopping such teams to play in EPL!!!

  18. Blue for life says:

I think you're right.. Oh no, sorry, I was there and the chanting was Inappropriate, overall I'd say you're a twat. Sorry gooners, this bloke must support Villa.

  19. DB says:

How nice of you to start with few words in Finnish. It's almost correct, there should be no colon in that sentence but otherwise correct. I doubt Wenger speaks Finnish, though.

About the text itself… well, I've seen some blindness from the fans before, but this has to be one of the worst cases. First of all, Walcott is out for 3-4 weeks with knee ligament damage that had nothing to do with Ridgewell's challenge, right?

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2009/oct/19/th…

Now, ask ANY neutral spectator of the match whether Walcott's injury was due to Ridgewell's challenge and you will get only one response. Of course it was. Fair enough, the guy got the ball and therefore the tackle was the infamous "committed" one rather than malicious, but how can anyone who really saw the incident think that the injury was not caused by the challenge is beyond me.

About the comments that Wenger made about the chants: I guess you can say that the supporters just happened to "show support" to Taylor at the very moment when Arsenal player is on the ground after a heavy challenge but are you really that blind that you do not realize how that looks? Agreed, neither Wenger or myself have no idea what the fans where thinking when singing but surely even a die-hard Birmingham fan can see how that looks like to everyone witnessing that to happen?

  20. mjc says:

Maybe you Brummie chaps could explain how a team can be anything other than laughable for getting a booking for time-wasting when losing 2-1???

  21. jw123@hotmail.com says:

While Mr. Wenger is quite obviously an intelligent man you sir are not.

  22. against cheats says:

Rellends I agree with you, these comments from a load of one eyed Arsehole fans, who don't seem to remember the knee high tackles from their players, the diving and rolling about as though shot. The moaning at every tackle to the referee to try and get a player booked or sent off. Yes Arsehole do play some lovely football but they moan and cheat at every game.

  23. zigzag says:

To keep the record straight Arsene Wenger's comments were just a response to a specific journalist's question. He did say later that it's not really worth talking about, so what's your point exactly? Get your facts right first at least before polluting football blogs with your crap. Unfortunately all it does is show how stupid some of Birmingham fans are. Defending Taylor's savage tackle and turning him into your here says it all really. Idiots!

  24. Zulu77 says:

I think it's Arsenal fans who are deluded. It was a perfectly good, strong tackle the likes of which are seen on Sunday mornings everywhere. Are you all saying players aren't allowed to go for the ball anymore or is it just when it comes to your own players? Never known such a bunch of moaning, ignorant, narrow minded bunch of fans like Arsenal's. Try to remember it's a fucking man's game.

I'm sure you'll all post calling me a twat and other things because it seems that's about the level you can manage rather than basing your arguments and comments on fact. Please carry on it's no skin off my bluenose.

If there are any Arsenal fans who have got the balls to admit the tackle was fair then fair play to you, though I highly doubt it.

  25. BRIAN says:

i think the above comments show just what a bad article this is

did you actually watch the game as i do not remember seeing theo

rolling around, prostrate yes, because he was injured i think

the fact that he will be out for about three weeks is proof

of the severity of the tackle says it all

  26. Ashok says:

oh, and any birmingham care to comment on this? we've had one so far who at least had the grace to concede the chanting was out of order, the other brummie fans conspicuous by their absence??

  27. William Davies says:

3rd rate team, 3rd rate fans with their 3rd rate inbred mentalities? Odds on the second best team in Birmingham being relegated? haha, jog on cnuts

  28. blue1876 says:

i cant believe how much this has blown out of proportion, chants are part of football it happens every week at every ground and as for joe you have just slandered 5 million people with your comments but do you see us crying no we have a sense of humour ,its just a game mate

  29. William Davies says:

To Zulu77, have another look at the tackle, you'll find he went in studs up. Now, I don't have a huge problem with the tackle to be honest, I think it was fair, but very strong. It was however clearly dangerous. If you can argue that a tackle that resulted in a player missing for 4 weeks thereafter is not dangerous, then so be it.

What I will however say is that they need to amend the rules for tackles like that in that if he doesn't get the ball and injures the player, he is banned for as long as the player he injured is out for. Surely that would be fair.

  30. Ashok says:

hey zulu77 you muppet – you're able to comment on the tackle, but not the article which is what we are referring to here. care to comment on whether the blogger has it down correctly when he says walcott was obviously play acting??

  31. Jimsters says:

I cant believe this is the drivel that birmingham city fans can write on their blogs!

So Taylor is out with a REAL Career threatening injury? Well I was of the belief that Eduardo i struly a lucky man to even have a foot still let alone play at the top level again.

Ridgewells tackle was wrong, over the top and dangerous and all BC fans know it. I agree that we all as fans harbour one or two players who are capable of tackles like that but denying what they have doen is never going to stamp this kind of thing out of the game…..Its like the ferral kids running around on the estates, the parents saying its not our little Jonny he's an angel, it's all the others….Get your house in order birmingham, both clubs once had a great relationship….you have most of our ex-reserves in your firast team, its a shame to say but at the moment your club, manager, players and fans lack class…..Shame.

  32. wrightsnake says:

Jesus Christ you're a deluded fool

  33. Zulu77 says:

Let me just add that I admit that the injury to Walcott was a direct result of the tackle but to say it was done deliberately to injure and 'that Mcleish told him to do it' is unbelievable. I will also admit that the timing of the chant was unfortunate to say the least. That's because I can admit facts and argue as such joe's 'You’ve got the UK’s ugliest women (also the easiest), the worst accent, the most neanderthal men, the most backward fashions, the worst music, and the dreariest, most unimaginative football supporters (hardly surprising, given the quality of your team).' makes you lot look like a bunch of retards (even if he's partly right) but resorting to purile insults is a bit shit, sad and very boring.

  34. bill says:

why is it when assole whinger speaks all you mockney wankers jump ya team is better than ours but what goes around comes around and when your bunch of fairies with the rest of the foriegn fairy money grabbing brigade piss off to further there wealth in a new league its us little clubs who will be laughing

  35. arsenal4ever says:

lets all laugh about Zulu77 :-) háhahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!

What a childish comment!!!! Grow up idiot!!!

  36. gooner11 says:

    mate, you are deluded….

firstly you talk about walcott playacting after the ridgewell tackle; it was a goof hard tackle but you cant imply walcott made a meal out of it. he is out for 3-4 weeks with ligament damage!

secondly, why the fuck should wenger send taylor a get well card. if he spent his time sending cards to every footballer who got injured he would have no time for real management. just because taylor broke eduardo's foot and may have sent him his best wishes doesnt mean we have now entered into some love in whereby they send each other cards everytime they get injured!

and lastly, yuou cant justify the chants that were sung by your scum brum fans. taylor was out injured and the only reason for singing his name was to rile arsenal and eduardo who was in the crowd. your lot basically glorified that tackle and showed complete lack of regard for what could have ended up finishing a players career.

seriously you need to think before you blog mate……

  37. JD says:

Come on, admit it, you posted this as a bet . . . you can't be that desperate for hits on your site or are your advertisers giving you grief????

  38. SAGooner says:

U my friend should start supporting Rugby or better yet Aussie Rules Rugby, perhaps those tackles are what you want to see, you probably an egg hugger posing as a football fan.

Walcott is out, for another month cause Ridgewhatever – reject, wanted to do him early and put him on his toes like Wenger said, to make an impression, numb nut. Walcott, with his injury left a defender for dead and forced a save. Cruciate almost gone, do you even know what ligament it is or what it does.

Perhaps your team thought that doing what they did before would rattle the guys again and result in mental collapse and fear, 3-1 and we played at 50%, haa dee f..king Haa tosser.

  39. blue1876 says:

my god you arsenal fans cant take banter ,this has turned into a slanging match theres no need ,yes it was wrong for that chant to be sang

  40. not_paranoid says:

This season Arsenal have picked up 13 yellows committing 92 fouls, whereas Birmingham have also got 13 yellows, with 104 fouls.

Song is currently joint top of the yellow cards tally for the whole Premiership, with 4 so far.

Before the Eduardo incident, I believe Martin Taylor had 6 yellows and 2 reds for his whole 250 game career.

Ridgewell has just returned to first team action after recovering from a very badly broken leg, for which at the time Birmingham did not even get a free kick. There was no such witch hunt after that game.

Perhaps if a team is one of the best in the world (which in my opinion Arsenal are) they deserve some protection, and yes, Ridgewells tackle although not technically a foul was reckless.

However, some of the comments on here are a bit over the top. To suggest that Birmingham are targetting Arsenal players is paranoid, and the childish insults hurled about by one or two others are laughable.

I would like to send my best wishes and wish a speedy recovery to Theo, the only one who has kept his dignity in this overblown load of rubbish.

  41. Zulu77 says:

'lets all laugh about Zulu77 háhahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!

What a childish comment!!!! Grow up idiot!!!'

What? You appear to have confused 'childish comment' with 'statement of fact'. As I suspected Arsenal fan's arguments have resorted to personal attacks. Please please please make an intelligent comment that we can actually debate or if you're going to be personal at least make it funny instead of putting your fingers in your ears and blowing raspberrys like a 3 year old.

  42. Ian M33 says:

Wenger apologise to Tayler, after Taylor's violent challenge nearly ended Eduardo's career? Very amusing.

As for Birmingham fans chanting Taylor's name when Walcott was injured, they disgust me. As do you, for trying to justify it.

To top off your ridiculous piece of writing, you actually manage to accuse Walcott of play-acting. Today Walcott been ruled out for a month with a ligament injury, caused by Ridgewells' tackle. If you're going to write this sort of rubbish, you might at least try to check your facts first.

  43. bluethroughnthrough says:

Great tackle in my oppinion and got the ball but then again this is arsenal we are talking about. To be fair we maswell say its a bad tackle because abroad it would have been and going by Arsenals squad we masewell play foreign rules because none of them are english.

Wenger is deluded and hes renowned for having a rule for arsenal and a rule for everyone else. Wenger must have been happy though he got to replace an english player with another player from abroad. Arshavin.

    Vodka anybody!

  44. Zulu77 says:

As I have said I fully accept that the tackle caused the injury (though I stand by the fact that I think it was fair) and the chant was poorly thought out but my problem is with people saying it was a deliberate 'attack' and worse still that Mcleish told him to do it.

  45. 1martintaylor says:

Tackle hard and fair, it is just unfortunate that a player got injured in an honest tackle. I was at the game and was one of the travelling fans who chanted Martin Taylors name in support…..so, do i really care what an outspoken manager thinks?! No, i dont think so and it is not even close to detering me. Its a shame that your own fans don't sing, worst atmosphere i have ever seen by a country mile especially when their team is up there with the best. As to a few ridiculous and low comments made by the arsenal fans on here maybe you should take a look at yourselves. I wish you all the best for the season.

  46. Zulu77 says:

Please everyone read not_paranoid's post. Basically sums things up perfectly.

  47. me_a_gooner says:

The tackle was tough, and unfortunately Theo got an injury out of it but that's football… I was there and that chant was meant to wind Arsenal fans up, well out of fucking order.. end of !!

  48. Chappers says:

Interesting that we played Birmingham for the first time since the Eduardo incident and we see another reckless over-committed challenge. To me that suggest that Mcleish is telling his players to go in hard early on in games against Arsenal.

It was basivally the exact same scenario all over again and it´s very rarely that you see players going in like Ridgewell did on saturday.

And bluethroughnthrough, you of all people should know that the only reason Ridgewell and Birmingham had the opportunity to almost end Eduardo´s career was because of Bendtner, Larsson and Muamba (all Arsenal players at some point). Show some gratitude.

  49. Chappers says:

    Edit. Ridgewell=Taylor

  50. Proper fan says:

Daft as arseholes and twice as nasty. After this I hope we won't have to play you much more. Hopefully you will go back down quickly to a league more befitting of you. It seems always likely that 1 of our players will be hospitalised after playing you. Villa are much more of a team.
