Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has critcised the Birmingham City fans who chanted Martin Taylor’s name after Theo Walcott was injured.

The England international waS injured in a challenge by Liam Ridgewell, but some fans chanted Taylor’s name following his tackle which left Arsenal striker Eduardo with a broken leg in February 2008.

“Frankly, that is atrocious,” said Wenger. “They will not be remembered for the quality of their taste with that kind of remark.

“I just thought ‘That is low’ and put it in the ranks of stupidity.

“One starts to say something stupid, everybody follows, even intelligent people.

“People lose their identity together and their sense of responsibility.”

Wenger added: “I want the physicality to stay, it is down to the referee to make the right decision.

“I don’t want to go too overboard because one of the beauties of the English game is a total commitment, and if you cut that out of the game, the players will not improve any more.

“So we have to cut out what is really dangerous, but we have to keep the basics, the commitment that makes the league more attractive than any other.”

  2. h says:

well, i was there, and yes, its moronic for us to chant taylor's name as a 'taunt'. the injury was horrific & to gloat – even if we didnt actually mean it – is crass and makes us look like dogs.

    ps i didn't join in

I wasn't surprised. The culture of a club is expressed on the field and at the moment Birmingham are a team of grotesques. This is exemplified by their manager's approach which has very little to do with football and more to do with intimidation and borderline violence. I have nothing against the club but they will never move on, even with their new found wealth, with this bloke in charge. Get a manager in who actually pays respect to football and you'll loose many of the morons. Thank God for people like h who see this as the sickening example it really is. McLeish is just another Allardyce.

i know its strange, but i did see this with my own eyes,i dont usually see what goes on,unless it suits me.

    How the F*** can you see a chant, you two-faced, turkey-head f*** ?

  6. REDORDEAD says:

arsene, thats because you hear things with youre ears and not youre eyes……..

  7. charybdis1966 says:

To the comedic genius called "arsene": I must ask you this before my sides split – how does someone "see" or not "see" a chant ?

I don't expect a rational answer as your fellow brum "supporters" have demonstrated the enormity of their intellect with your oh-so-clever Heather Mills/Eduardo song.

Obviously Wenger has no right to say anything against your team;how dare he try and set up a team to use skill and flair to win a game ? Football as a sport and entertainment is clearly crying out for more cloggers, mugs and thugs like the the sort of player you glorify – Taylor, Bowyer, Ridgewell.

But congratulations for your remark, well done, your must feel so proud.

  8. Gooner says:

Funny thing, I didn't actually have a problem with Birmingham, even after taylor's disgusting assault on Eduardo but when I heard them singing that (at the game), I just thought, who would sing that. Pathetic, but I'll be rooting for them to join hull in the mickey mouse league next season. What goes around comes around

  9. anon says:

yeah, some brum fans and that pasty faced thug in charge of the team are vile particuarly that fat arse female who can be seen on the tv pictures jumping up and down in the second row. nasty stuff.

maybe wenger has bad eyes sometimes, but mcleish certainly has bad ears.

"Birmingham manager Alex McLeish said: “I never heard it. I’m not going to discuss it.“ "

  11. ricardo says:

That kind of coaching "let them know you are there" practiced by McLeaish in SPL and the Championship is a dangerous thing in the hands (or feet) of players playing a level above their skills. Seems McLeish has warned some of his Championship players already they are not winners.

Money or no money this kind of mentality and approach is best in the lower-leagues where hopefully Brum will shortly be

  12. ricardo says:

    Expliquez Arsene Wenger en Francais

Expliquent comment il ne peut pas voir un chant

Connait ses yeux de ses oreilles

    Si vous pouvez

    vous dindes stupides!

    Stupid turkeys

  13. arsene says:

so my good friends how did he know who was singing, did he not see who it was.oh i thought not.bunch ov puffs.come on you know its a load ov crap, your lot sing shit as well we all do,as for the tackle it was fair, what do you want,a non contact sport.and your manager never sees nothing unless it suit him.get over it,you wont win jack all playing fancy football, thats why you want viera back.to put a bit ov bite back.ive got a lot ov time for your football, its the best, but sometimes your 2 faced.

  14. arsene says:

also lets see what happens when fabregas gets some stick at hull,no doubt you wont back your man.

  15. mjc says:

You can sum up Birmingham's ambition by the fact that they had a player booked for time-wasting when they were losing.

  16. arsene stupid says:
